We are excited to kick off 2025 with the homeschool program Native People, Native Places, which will focus on the Cherokee people. If you have volunteered for one of our most recent school field trips, this will be a similar program geared towards homeschool students. We will have 3 stations with activities - the gallery, main hall, and the classroom.  Lessons/activities start every 30 minutes.

We need volunteers comfortable leading the lessons and who have experience in classroom management.

The day is divided into 2 sessions - elementary aged activities will happen in the morning from 10 a.m. - noon, and activities for middle and high schooled aged students will happen from 1 - 3 p.m. We will have a speaker in the main hall from noon - 1 p.m.

You may opt to volunteer for both shifts. If you do, you will have an opportunity for a lunch break during the speaker session.

We are excited to introduce a new program we're call Science Saturdays. This quarterly program is open to scientists of all ages.

For our first Science Saturday, we're getting wild with Mad Kitchen Science. Experiments will be hands-on and include items most people can find in their kitchens - bubbles, lava lamp, non-Newtonian fluid, and elephant toothpaste. There are 2 sessions for guests to choose from: 10:30 - noon and 1 - 2:30. We're asking volunteers to come in about 30 minutes to help set up and stay about 30 minutes after to help clean up.

If you opt to work both sessions, a lunch break will be available between noon and 1 p.m.

Super Museum Sunday is day where many museums and historic sites across Georgia offer free admission. Although we have changed our hours and are no longer open on Sundays, we're making an exception for Super Museum Sunday. We'll have one of our regular front desk staff attendants working, but we'd like that person to have a little extra help.  Tasks include checking in guests (we'll show you how), keeping an eye on the restrooms, providing basic information to guests (such as where the restrooms are and how the museum is laid out), and keeping an eye on the galleries.

Hours: 11:45 am - 5:15 p.m.

The event runs 3 - 5 p.m. Volunteer hours are 3:30 - 5:30 p.m.

We're hosting a Winter Break Camp for kids ages 8 - 11. Each day features a different topic. Camp runs 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. each day (archaeology, all about minerals, genealogy, toys, and the science of color).  We need volunteers to help with classroom management, assist campers when needed, possibly direct an activity, and clean up each day.  You will need to bring your lunch and have lunch with the campers.

In addition to the regular daily sessions, there will be one additional session on Thursday, 2 - 4 p.m., just for the Boys and Girls Club.

Volunteers with classroom management experience or any experience working with kids are preferred.

We must have a background check on file for you to volunteer at this camp. If you are unsure if we have a background check on you, please ask. If you know we do not, please let us now and we'll get it taken care.
